Some random thoughts

Apologies for the extended hiatus on this blog.

Couple of thoughts for right now:

- The Falcons continue OTAs (offseason training activities) this week and go through the middle of June. Offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey has integrated a good portion of his offense on the field and head coach Mike Smith is getting a good look at his draft picks and undrafted free agents.

Speaking of the Falcons, was Matt Ryan's contract ridiculous or what? Nothing like mortgaging the franchise on an uncertain future. No wonder the owners opted out of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Deals like the one the Falcons gave to Ryan are the reason why the NFL has turned into a me-first, team-second atmosphere. Chew on this for a moment: In the past eight years, the Falcons have spent more than $170 million on two quarterbacks -- Ryan and Michael Vick. Yikes.

- For anyone who missed last week's Revolution Fight League event at the Macon Coliseum, you might want to think about attending its next event in Middle Georgia, whenever that may be. I admit two things: 1) I'm a casual, at best, MMA fan; and 2) I went into last Saturday's event with extremely low hopes.

The event, however, changed my outlook completely. The RFL did a fantastic job making the event as professional as possible. The cage looked great, the Coliseum was set up intelligently and the entrance music and smoke for each fighter was a nice touch. The RFL also lucked out as the fight card they put together was extremely entertaining and fun to watch.

I think I have been converted after seeing MMA live and I, for one, look forward to the RFL's return to Macon.

- Speaking of MMA, the UFC's Cole Miller -- a Mount de Sales grad -- will be in Macon next week for a few days. Check out next Sunday's Telegraph for an update on him and his next fight.

- A Boston-L.A. NBA Finals would actually be better than watching linoleum curl.

- Two of the more exciting teams in hockey are facing off for the Stanley Cup. Does anyone else notice?

- Big Brown will earn you big bucks June 7.
